Relatively new to North America, the SARPLANINAC (pronounced shar-pla-nee-natz) breed dates back to the Molossian hounds and livestock guarding dogs of ancient Tibet.
Also known as the Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog, the Sarplaninac is a moderately large dog that is commonly used as a livestock and property guardian. It is loyal, intelligent, devoted to its family and suspicious of strangers, fairly easy to train and very protective.
The breed is recognized by the CKC and UKC in the miscellaneous class.
