| Description: |
Born the twentieth day of March this year these youngsters have been in with the dairy goat herd from birth. Their parents Zeke and Taka guard our dairy herd from predators here in Idaho. Taka is three years old and handles kidding season well now. Zeke, a year old, did very well his first kidding season. We will retain two puppies to work with the adults for our second pasture.
There are five females and three males for sale. Two of the ten will remain here to work. They are up-to-date on their shots and have had their first check-up by our vet. We work with them daily to assure proper conduct with the kids (young goats) and they already come on command. More pictures to come. This one is of the bitch at nine months.
Please remember that the Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD) were bred to be guardians and are very large dogs and can be thought of as independent thinkers in comparison to other working class dog breeds.
QUOTE: "A livestock guardian dog (LGD) can't be purchased "ready to go" - even if obtained as an adult, he needs time to become accustomed to his job. If purchased as a pup, he need EIGHTEEN/TWENTY-FOUR months to become fully reliable. A dog that had been properly trained and "bonds" to a flock of sheep - and a flock really needs to be more than just a couple - may tolerate working without seeing a human for a few days, but you are far better off using other management methods to protect your very small flock."
