We were blessed with five beautiful Spinoni puppies on July second. We own the White Sire and the Brown Roan Dam. There are three, all white females and one female with brown ears and a brown spot where her tail begins. These pups are pure bred. Their parents have a high water drive, and love swimming in the lake or swimming pool. They are inate hunters and point out birds without professional hunting training. This litter was an "oops" breeding. Penne was going through conformation, when Norman got to her with his own intentions. These puppies will not have AKC papers. They are majestic animals and will be a delightful pet or hunting partner for those without intentions of breeding. Spinoni are not for everyone. They require exercise, and their hunting mouth is prone to drool due to their excellent hunting skills and "soft mouths." My puppies will be not drool much because the sire drools and the dam does not. The dam is quite the athlete and would be excellent in agility, which we may pursue. She is two, the sire is three. He came from excellent line of hips, but was pin hipped one week before the "hook-up" and found to have moderate hip dysplasia. This is a common condition in any large dogs, especially the large boned Spinone. There are NO guarantees even when you purchase a dog from parents with "excellent to good" hips. The usual guarantee is that the breeder will take the dog back at one to two years when the results of hip dysplasia are revealed. These dogs are loving pets who follow their people from room to room often leaning on them for comfort. Spinone are very special and if you own one, you will have to own even more. My pups would be an excellent introduction to the breed. Norman may have been the only puppy of ten with moderate hip dysplasia. I had him pin hipped because the breeder was looking for a stud dog, and he was the whitest, and he had the best lines of his litter mates. The breeder was as shocked as I to learn of his condition. He was tied to the entry way hand rail after a walk. I had just let Penne out of her crate because no dogs were in the house. I heard my husband yell, "get down," as I ran to the entry and saw the results. We are having a hard time in our family because my mother just moved in with us and she suffers with Alzheimer's. I believe this was a blessing in disguise. If you want a loving dog, who is very intelligent, loyal and by your side - Spinone Italiano are the the right choice for you. Norman is training to be a therapy dog and visit nursing homes. He will soon be neutered. Please consider one of our beautiful babies, but they must be spayed due to Norman's recessive dysplasia gene.
