Additional information
New Bernese Mountain Goldens

Have you ever met a Bernese Mt. Dog? If you have spent any time at all with this dog breed you will be in love, regardless if you are "not a big dog person". The reasons are compelling. These dogs are wonderful to live with. They are gentle, good natured, placid and very loving and affectionate to their people.

Besides their obvious beauty, their temperament is their strongest characteristic. Bernese Mt. dogs are completely sweet and calm with children, they will watch you to make darn sure they are not doing anything, however slight, that you might not like.

They will not dream of getting into your garbage, jumping up on anyone, digging your yard up or taking off with your shoes typical of other large breed dogs. They don't shed much at all, they don't bark unless it is prudent to do so, and they even smell good all the time.

Bernese Mt. dogs are friendly to other animals, dogs, cats, horses, and get this: My beloved Berner will not look sideways at my flock of ornamental chickens, or my daughters parlor roller pigeon. He just knows that would upset us terribly and he is not going there. Do you know any other dog who would leave a chicken alone? Me either.

So what's the problem?

These big gentle teddy bears come into our lives, remove our hearts, and promptly die at about age seven. Many of these dogs will become afflicted with musculoskeletal problems like cruciate ligament rupture, arthritis, hip dysplasia and osterchondritis. To add insult, more than fifty percent of these dogs will die early of cancer, compared with twenty seven percent for all dogs in general.

I cannot stand it, and I know other people who have lost their Berner to cancers, usually, and are heartbroken. Often their children are right in the middle of growing up and may have had their family Bernese Mt. Dog since they were born. How are you going to fill that kind of void other than getting another one and knowing in another seven years your heart will be crushed again?

My Proposal:

Bernese Mountain Goldens!

Golden Retrievers and Bernese Mt. dogs share the good traits, like a stable, loving, family oriented personality and are both very attractive dogs, although with very different looks.

We need to up the longevity, tamp down on the skeletal issues and the cancer problem, all the while enhancing their good traits. Golden retrievers can help these wonderful dogs. Goldens live from twelve to fifteen years, so they will be there for your family most of the time while your kids are growing up. This is a far cry from seven years.

Next up, while Goldens can get hip dysplasia, often it's onset is late in life and it may be fairly mild, not affecting the dogs overall activity level too much. We purposely selected the sweetest and smallest Golden female Mom to bring down the size of these sweethearts. The reason is two fold: Very large dogs are predisposed to be the first losers to musculoskeletal degeneration, and many people need their dog to not be so large that they take up the whole backseat! It is easier to have a reasonably sized dog.

Why is this worth it?

Because as I said, if you have ever met a Bernese Mt. dog, you have met perfect love. And the much sought after Golden Retrievers are just the ones to give them a leg up in the world.

We have puppies now due June twenty seventh and ready August eighth two thousand ten. Call Diana for more details and pictures!
