Oh my goodness, what a difference four years makes! The "white-faced" photo is recent (11/26/2011) and the other was taken in 2007. Amy still "rips into high gear", races around, and make lots of growly noises during play- just like she did as a young dog. She also does a kind of "wailing", rather than barking, which is why we think she's a Husky mix or other northern breed. ?? She is completey crate-trained, and in fact was housetrained before she came to Friends for Life. She gets along well with other dogs, and cats, too. Because of her age and special needs (she has severe skin allergies), Amy is also available as a Sponsor Dog. We weaned her over to a special grain-free diet five months ago now, to see if that will help long-term since food allergies- especially allergies to grains- can cause skin (and ear) problems. Grain-free dry food in our area costs $45 to $53 for a 30# bag (we've been able to get it on sale for $45 and $48). She is also on AllerG3 from the vet, a supplement that contains essential fatty acids plus vitamins A, D and E. Cost for that is $13.10 per month. Total monthly expense for food and supplement is $58.00 to $61.00. UPDATE Nov. 28, 2011: Amy is looking better than she has in years! Don't know if it's the Grain-Free diet or the AllerG3 supplement, but we're keeping her on both! Please see our Home Page (Sponsor Program) if you are interested in becoming a Sponsor for Amy and helping with her expenses. Thank you! SPONSOR(s) NEEDED
