5/15/12: Layla is a very friendly and sweet-natured Newfoundland mix. She is 6 months old. She weighs 40 lbs at this time, so while she'll be a fairly large dog she won't be near the size of a purebred Newfoundland. Layla gets along very well with other dogs. She's been to some of our satellite adoption events and she loves meeting new people and new dogs.
Layla had been found in the road after she'd been hit by a car. X-rays showed that she had a fractured pelvis. After a period of cage rest, Layla is back on her feet and she's healing and getting around very well. We are recommending that some care be taken with her activity level so that she doesn't overdo it, and Rimadyl be given to her on days that she seems sore. This may be a life-long condition.
Layla has been vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. She's a cutie!
MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS
> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (6 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, 5 lbs of Science Diet, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!
> Please note that most of our dogs do require a fenced yard, although there may some who are appropriate for apartment living or circumstances where a fence may not be required.
> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our pets, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that same day. Please visit our web site at hsgkc.org for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.
Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
