Lil Bit is not only an amazing dog, but has an equally amazing and lucky story. After being adopted a puppy, her former owners grandchild developed severe allergies to her, so Lil Bit found herself being surrendered to a shelter at age 1-1/2. Being in a shelter is awful in any circumstances, but Lil' Bit's chances of a good outcome were made much worse when the shelter, despite the original vet paperwork that accompanied her, inadvertently listed her age as 12 years old. And they completely shaved her down to her skin in a last ditch effort to relieve her allergy symptoms. Thankfully a New Rattitude volunteer looked past the listed age and realized she was just a youngster, who is now in rescue. Lil Bit is an energetic young dog with an incredibly sweet face. We believe she is a Rat Terrier/beagle mix. Her hair is growing back and is very soft but still very short and thin, which is shy her cute spots are so apparent in some of her photos. She is completely housetrained and house savvy. Because she is young and has high energy, Lil Bit would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She gets along very well with her canine foster siblings, but is energetic in play, which can be a little rough for very small dogs so she would probably do best in a home with another dog that is at least as large as she is (18-20 lbs.). When feeling playful, she will chase her feline foster siblings and will occasionally play a little rougher with them than they would prefer. She would be okay in a house with dog-savvy cats. When meeting new people outside, she is a "lil' bit" shy but warms up quickly, especially when treats are involved! She can be a little fearful when new people come into her house, but some reassurance from her foster parents easily solves that. Lil Bit does suffer from some mild separation anxiety so she would do best in a home with another free roaming dog that could help diffuse some of her nervous energy. Because of her anxiety, she does not do well in a crate, but but fortunately her house manners are so perfect that crating isn't necessary. Lil Bit loves to ride in cars and will curl up on the back seat and sleep. She also loves to lounge on the couch, chew on deer antlers, and sleep in the bed under the covers with her humans.
