Hiya! I was named Paula at the rescue, but my foster family calls me Penny and that is the name I answer to. I am a sweet little rambunctious Chihuahua mix who weighs about 6 pounds and is around five years old. When I was brought in to the rescue I only weighed 4.5 pounds; now I weigh a whopping 6.5 pounds! My rescuers believe that the mill owners were trying to make a Teacup Sheltie, but messed up. Sometimes when different recessive genes are mixed, different problems are caused. Because of the ignorance of the breeders, I have something that is called a micro-eye. It is under-developed, and while some dogs have part or full vision in their micro-eyes, I have none. Luckily, it doesn't slow me down one bit because I have full vision in my other eye! Also, because of the bad genes and malnutrition while in the puppy mill, I have very thin bones. The day I was brought to my foster family's home, I took a bad jump and broke my leg. The orthopedic surgeon could not perform surgery on my leg because my bones were too small and fragile. All he could do was put on a splint and hope for the best. My foster mom made sure to put a lot of calcium in my diet to help strengthen my bones, and because of that, my leg healed beautifully! Today, I run around the yard as fast as I can and I don't have a care in the world. I take a long time to get used to new people, but once I know they won't hurt me, they become my best friend. I cannot go to a home with small children. If you are ready for a commitment and have a lot of time to spend building a trusting relationship, please ask for me, Paula/Penny on your application.
