Update 7-19-12 WE can't figure out why Dakota has not found his home yet. We have had this guy since the end of January and he is eager to please and such a baby. Dakota also loves to play fetch, loves kids and wants a family to love and please, Dakota is a 2 year old newfie/collie/golden mix. He was turned over to animal control because he kept jumping on the grandkids-which Dakota can be taught not to jump-it takes a little time and patience...and consistency. He has not tried to jump up on anyone since we have had him. He is house/crate trained. He also knows how to sit, shake and lay down! We believe Dakota was a mainly outside dog from his previous owners, but he has not had an accident in the house and will follow you around wherever you go and will even lay down and watch you cook. He is a little unsure of the slick flooring as it makes him not have the greatest of footing, but the longer he is an inside dog, the more he will get used to walking across the floor. Dakota loves to be outside when it is cold for a good run..he has the thickness in his coat like a newfie and collie does making him nice and toasty warm in the winter, but the softness of a golden. Dakota will require weekly brushings to help keep his coat shiny and to catch the loose hairs. He is a total sweetheart. HE is about 55-60 pounds. All of our animals are kept in foster homes until they are eligible for adoption. Foster families work on socialization of the dogs by exposing them to many different kinds of people, other animals, and situations. Fosters also work with the dogs on crate training and house breaking, and although this is a learning process which takes time and effort on everyone's part, the goal is for the dog to leave us with a basic foundation for continuing training. The adoption donation for canines is $200 and includes their shots and worming up to date, flea / tick / heartworm preventative, microchip, and spay or neuter. Please email Ricos_Rescue_IL@yahoo.com for more information or an application to adopt. While we welcome out of state adoptions, we do not ship our animals. All of our pets are placed in approved, permanent, indoor homes only. Thank you.
