Rufus was picked up in the Rosewood area by a good Samaritan afraid for his safety near a busy intersection. Rufus sat patiently at our local animal shelter waiting for his owner to claim him, but after a month it was clear no one was coming.
Rufus is older, estimated to be between 7 and 9 years old. (DOB estimate: 02/19/04) He is a bit grey around the muzzle and occasionally gets a bit stiff in his back legs. He has been started on a daily glucosamine regimen to help prevent future mobility problems. Rufus has a uniquely lopsided face. His eye and cheek appear bigger on one side than the other. The vet feels Rufus was most likely born this way and that it has no effect on his health or vision. Personally, we feel it gives him character.
At one time, Rufus was loved and well cared for. You can tell when a dog has never been inside of a house and it is obvious Rufus has always been a house dog. He seeks out the most comfortable, cushy place to sleep and stays there very content for most of the day. He had already been neutered before arriving at the shelter and has tested HW negative. Rufus is housetrained, dog friendly and knows basic commands to include "speaking" on command for a treat. He does well on the leash, but prefers a shorter walk in the local neighborhood or simply exploring his own yard. Rufus likes chew bones and the occasional back scratch preferably from you, but he will make do with the side of the couch or table leg.
Rufus has many healthy years of life and love to give to the right owner. Although he loves children, he is past his running, jumping, wrestling years. Rufus would do well in a home with an older owner/couple looking for a calm, loving companion. * Applicants must be 21 years of age or olderThis dog is currently being fostered as part of Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue.
