My name is Hershey and I am a shar pei/chocolate lab mix. I am super sweet once you get to know me, but I am fearful at first so its hard to get adopted since everyone who wants to adopt me is a stranger. I am WONDERFUL with all the volunteers and staff since I know them and they take care of me. I would benefit from someone with some patience and willingness to hlep me gain some confidence and socialization. I was a stray who turned up at animal control and no one claimed me. My eyelids turned in on themselves scraping my eyes which was very uncomfortable all my life. It is called entropion and I have recently had surgery to correct the problem. Once that happened, I have actually blossomed since I now live my life pain free, for the first time ever. I need access to leash walking or a 6 foot privacy fence. I glide over 4 foot chain links like they are hurdles. I have alot of Sharpei in me so I can be protective of my people and my surroundings......a perfect watch dog. I am devoted to my people, but I growl at strangers. I am great with cats, dogs and am completely housebroken. I am PERFECT in a house and with people I trust, but would do best in a home where not a lot of people come and go. I have a circle of trust and new people have to earn my trust and I take my lead from my people I am devoted to. I am not the kind of dog to go to the beach with or to dog parks---too many strangers.
