UPDATE: Duke seeks aquiet home, with few if any stairs, someone who likes to go for daily walks because Duke LOVES going for walks and the vet did say that daily walks would be something he would need to have. Duke can't handle long walks like over a mile but needs one or two shorter walks a day. Right now he can successfully do about a half mile round trip walk every day.Duke seeks a new guardian who likes a dog that just wants to be with you, lay at your feet and relax and has a nice soft bed for him:) Duke would enjoy the company of another calm dog, not one with tons of energy or one that would pester during nap time!!! Large or small dog would work, just not one that is hyper or jumps on him or around a lot.
The medical name for what Duke has is the Cruciate Rupture, but he doesn't need surgery for it right now. Basically he has a knee on his back leg that is 'loose' and can pop out of joint. It has not happened in a long time and last time it went back into place on its own. The walks keep his muscles strong and help to keep it from popping out of joint. We would urge any family lucky enough to adopt Duke to run it past a trusted vet so full knowledge is in place.........Duke is a great dog who does not get enough attention from adoptors.
Duke is a gentle and passive boy of the neatest color, he walks well on a leash, uses the doggy door and is good with all other dogs of all sizes. Duke is just a sweet boy, likes his belly rubbed and is a big cuddly want to be lap dog. We think Duke may have a birth year of 2005. The good doc feels that Duke was neglected, was over fed empty junk calories but not provided with enough exercise, consequently he has limited muscle tone and over development of fat. He is now on a walking schedule and getting in shape, can learn and love in a new life if winded!! Duke is gentle and needs like wise humans to share his life!! He would thrive in an all adult, low activity, warm and comfortable home where he can live and love his golden years away. With some joint problems settling in, good ol' Duke just wants to have an easy life and lots of love with warmth and few stairs. He seeks foster care, rescue or adoption
