Additional information
Annabelle is about 3 years old and is thought to be a McNap Shepard mix. These are very smart, loyal and loving dogs. They are a breed that loves activity. She would be your most enjoyable hiking companion. She's about 3 years old, extremely smart, athletic, and loves to play. She's great at learning tricks (she knows sit, lie down, play dead, stay, and "go to bed"), and will fetch a ball, retrieve it, and drop it in your lap. She does bark at strangers sometimes from our yard, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and she's helped us feel very well protected in our urban home. She can also get nervous around new guests, but generally loves them too after a few minutes. Why are we looking for a new home for such a wonderful dog? Let's start with her history. We rescued her from the pound when she was a puppy. She was very wild then, and would bark and try to lunge at some strangers. We worked with her and she improved some, but when we decided to start a family we felt she was still too wild and would be a danger. Our trainer convinced us that we had a few years before our baby would be old enough to really interact with her, like pulling her tail, and that often dogs grow out of wild behaviors. He said most dogs given to the pound are under 4 years old for this reason. With training and time she became a better and better dog. But recently we were walking with her at a camping trip, and a little boy sped through our group from behind on a scooter. She was probably just frightened and trying to protect her "pack", but she bit this boy hard on the leg - Because our son is at the age where he'll soon have other children over frequently to our house, I don't see how we can keep her after this. We have been desperately searching for a new home for her ever since, and I'm afraid the final step is euthanasia. For this reason we are looking for a home without children or with older children. We hope there is someone who is able to give her the care and attention she deserves.Since this incident Matt reports that she has been very good with no more problems. If you can take her or know someone else who would be a good fit, we would be grateful. If you are interested in Annabelle, please call Matt at: 206-384-4409
