Pumkin is a senior Australian sheep in his mid-teens. When our volunteer first spotted him at the shelter sent us this email - "I met this guy today; his stray period runs out on Thursday, and I'm pretty sure he will be put to sleep. His vision is limited by cloudy eyes, he has arthritis, he's missing most of his teeth, except his canines which stick out of his mouth at about 90 degree angles, but he seems very sweet. I understand that this is probably a lost cause but I had to mention him."
We don't believe in lost causes, so we put out an email to our volunteers and found a foster home for him. His teeth were horribly infected and the infection had actually eaten a hole through his cheek. He was in bad shape, but the first thing we needed to do was put him under anesthesia to get his mouth cleaned up and get the infection under control. We weren't sure he would make it through the procedure, but we had to try. He was miserable and couldn't eat. He did make it through surgery and lost most of his teeth, and is now in a loving foster home. He is a happy, friendly dog who is so grateful for a warm bed, good food, and lots of love. He gets along with dogs, cats and loves attention from people. He is emaciated and is on a weight gain program. He only weighs about 30 pounds and needs to gain 15 pounds or so.
He had to be shaved down due to all the matting, so it's hard to tell he was once a fluffy aussie!
