To adopt an animal from Lyon County Animal Services you must complete an adoption contract with our office.
The adoption fees are $20.00 and if the animal is 4 months of age or younger a refundable deposit is required. The deposit is $10.00 for the rabies shot and $50.00 for the sterilization for a total of $60.00. The deposit will be refunded to you once we receive proof from a licensed Veterinarian that the animal has been sterilized and has received a rabies vaccination provided you complete it in the time allowed on the contract. There are special requirements for anyone adopting a "Pit Bull". Please contact our office for specific requirements.
LCAS Policy on Adopting Staffordshire Terriers (Pitbulls) or any cross-breed. Our adoption policy for Staffordshire Terriers is designed to ensure permanent, loving and safe homes. While the history of the breed includes using the animal for "baiting" or "fighting", the dogs today can be admired for their strength, loyalty and impressive physical appearance. Their successful placement is dependent upon the provision of proper training and socialization. To be considered for the adoption process, you MUST: 1. Be at least 25 years old. 2. Have a 6' (minimum) fenced yard. The fence must be made of suitable material and in good repair for containing the animal and preventing escape. 3. Not have any children less than 12 years of age living in the home. 4. Agree to "At-Will" checks from the Lyon County Animal Services Staff.
